Keep in mind
- A reverse mortgage charges interest, and the loan balance grows each year. That leaves less home equity for you or your heirs.
- In return, there is no required monthly mortgage payment, and you may not have to sell investments when the market is down.
- You still pay property taxes, homeowners insurance, and upkeep, and the home must stay your main home.
